Make Your Own Mixes

With all this low-fat/low-sodium cooking that I'm doing, I find that it's expensive to purchase all these convenience items like Healthy Request Cream of Chicken Soup, Light Ragu, etc.. I've been doing some research on making my own and these are a few recipes that I like.

Make Your Own Cream of Soup

Soup or Sauce [S.O.S.] Mix

Ingredients
2 cups powdered non-fat dry milk
3/4 cup cornstarch
1/4 cup instant chicken bouillon (regular or low sodium)
2 Tbsp dried onion flakes
2 tsp Italian seasoning (optional)

Directions
Combine all ingredients in a recloseable plastic bag, mixing well.
Equal to 9 (10.5 oz) cans of cream soup.


Make Your Own Dry Italian Seasoning Packet

Dry Italian Dressing Substitute

1-½ tsp. garlic powder
1 tbsp. onion powder
2 tbsp. oregano
1 tbsp. dried parsley
1 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. ground basil
¼ tsp. thyme
½ tsp. dried celery leaves

1/ Measure out all ingredients and combine in bowl. Use in place of Zesty Dry Italian Dressing packet.
2/ To make dressing: Mix 2 tbsp. of mix with ¼ cup vinegar, 2 tbsp. water and ½ to ⅔ cup olive oil.
Servings: 1 packet


Make Your Own Lipton Onion Soup Mix

This will make one "packet" of soup mix:
4 tsp. beef bouillon
8 tsp. dehydrated minced onions
1 tsp. onion powder
1/4 tsp. pepper
