Winter Wheat

The Winter Wheat is coming up nicely.

Looks like a sea of grass out there, doesn't it?

One big yard that needs mowed. lol

It looks a bit odd against the regular grass that's still brown with a bit of green in it.

Harvest Time Is Upon Us

Harvest Time is upon us. Most farmers are already bringing in their corn and beans, but there are a few late planters. The harvest that pertains to me each year is the pecan harvest (first photo). I work at a farm in the Fall where I am one of three women that crack and bag the pecans for sale (both local and internet). The pecans won't be ready for harvest until we have a few hard frosts and the pecans fall off the trees. As seen in the photo shown, the pecan hulls are already drying out and starting to crack open. That's a good sign. The other crops featured in the photos are corn and soybeans

Crops

My farmer's daughter roots are showing in these photos. I was fascinated by the crops in the fields that I have never seen before. The first photo shows cotton. The second photo shows tobacco. The third photo is a huge field of melons. Now, we do grow melons around here...pumpkins mainly, but I was really impressed by the acreage taken up by these melons. :) All of these photos were taken in the state of Georgia.
