Pecan Festival 2013

Last weekend was our annual Pecan Festival.  And yes, I'm just now getting around to posting a few photos.  Sorry it's taken me so long.
The World's Largest Pecan was moved to it's new home about a month before the festival and the art classes at school volunteered to repaint it.  Small T was one of the ones that helped work on it.  Here's its new resting place, right next to City Hall.  If you stand in front of the pecan, it's still taller than you are.  It's that big.
Here's the Brunswick Marching Band coming down the highway.  I must say...they are looking great!
Big C came home from college and volunteered to drive the Pecan Festival Queen's Court in the back of our truck.
Here are Destiny (left) and Small T (right) with their tag-a-long helper, Braxton.
This is Rodger.  He and Big C ride back and forth from college together.  He's driving one of his family's tractors in the parade.
Now...Saturday night of the Pecan Festival is a busy time for teens.  There are lots of things for them to do.  Little Ty was headed out the door (on his own) to his first teen dance.  Small T wanted a photo with him to mark this special moment.  I think Small T is in trouble since she's the same height as Little Ty now.  She was not impressed that a just turned 13 year old boy was as tall as she is.  lol
And what better way to end this post than with a silly photo of the two kids.  They are both goofing around which was her attempt at settling Ty's nerves.  He was looking to meet up with a good looking 8th grade girl (an older woman...lol) and maybe dance a few slow dances with her (which he did).

Yesterday...

Yesterday (Saturday), was a very long day for us.
First, we had two morning ball games out of town.  I'm sharing a few highlights of Small T.
 Listening to the National Anthem.
Small T is 2nd from the right.
One of her many times at bat.
 Coming into 3rd base.
 On deck.
We ended up losing both games but it was still a good morning of ball playing.
Then it was off to another town for the Sterling Price Days parade.
Small T is in the marching band.
 Here comes the band.
Small T is 2nd from the right.  She plays the flute.
Then here comes one of my two favorite groups in the parade.  It's the Boone County Fire and Rescue Bagpipe Corp..  I even went up to them before the parade started to shake their hands and tell them how much I enjoy seeing them in the parade.  They were so nice and said they wished more people would tell them that.  :)
Then here came my other favorite group.  The Missouri High Steppers.  They are so much fun to watch!
The only thing I bought out of all the booths at Sterling Price Days was 2, yep...2, large bags of Kettle Corn.  I can't pass by a Kettle Corn stand at any of the fairs and festivals.

Sports and Band Highlights

When I was writing up yesterday's post, I forgot to include some of the baseball, softball and band photos that I've taken over the last two weeks.  Here are a few highlights.
Big C stealing 2nd base during the Bucklin/Macon Co. game.  He went on to steal home plus another base during this ball game.  I have no idea what got into him because he doesn't normally steal bases.  He can't run fast enough to do so.  But I'm super, super proud of him.  He was 3 for 3 that night, with 3 R.B.I.'s.
Getting ready to pound the baseball, yet again.  He's on a roll this year!
Small T is in the outfield (right field).  This is the Glasgow game that was played in the pouring down rain.
Still pouring down rain at the Glasgow game.  Big C pounded another one out to center field.  We were tied, 2 to 2 in the 2nd inning and the game was called due to the weather.  The 2 runs that we had were due to this ball that Big C hit.  Bases were loaded and he got a double out of it.
Small T chasing a ball at the Cairo game.
Big C, meeting and greeting, at the Glasgow make-up game.
Carrollton Band Day.  This past Saturday.  Our band is coming up to the starting point.
Starting it off.  Small T is in the front row on the right.  She plays the flute.
She said she wants to be a flag girl next year.  Hmmmm.....she also says she needs a shorter flag.  The pole is too tall.  LOL  Don't tell her, but I think she looks like a circus monkey in this photo.
Our official band photo for this year.  Looking good!!!!
So, that's my highlights from the past 2 weeks.  Between the 6 nights of ball games and the band day, I took about 200 photos.

Sterling Price Day - Brunswick Marching Band

Saturday was Sterling Price Day in the town just over from us.  Our school's marching band always performs  /competes in the parade.  This year, we won 1st place.
A great view of the band coming down the street towards us.  Small T is in the first row of instrument players all the way to the right of the photo.  You can just see her.
And here's Small T again...she plays the flute.  I barely had enough time to capture this photo though.  They were marching faster than I could walk backwards.  I need to practice.  :)

What I've Been Up To (Part 2)

This past Saturday, the Band Boosters, with the help of the band members, held a car wash as a fundraiser.
Yes, that's Small T washing a tractor.  We get them each time we hold a car wash.  Obviously, we live in a rural farm area.  :)  You can tell, can't you?
We even get a few other interesting "vehicles" like this scooter that Small T is washing.
I also got my magnet order in this week.  They are the kids' sports/cheer squad and their numbers.  This is the 1st set.
And this is the 2nd set.
Big Daddy has been working out in the garage/work shop again.  He made this bird feeder.  It's quite popular among the bird community right now.  It's seeing a lot of action, that's for sure.
Then he made this nesting box.  It's painted John Deere yellow.
He also made a squirrel feeder.
This is my current progress on the granny squares that I'm making.  I am working on the last 8 right now.  Or at least, I hope I only have 8 more to go.  I want to make it 5 squares by 4 squares.  I am unsure if it will be a good size then or not.  I'll just have to wait and see, I guess.
And last, but not least, is the item Big Daddy made for Small T.  I've put it down at the bottom of this post in hopes that she won't see it if she goes to my blog page.  Small T's 15th birthday is this coming Saturday.  She's not too thrilled as it's also the Prom here in town.  So...she has to celebrate on another day.  Anyway, Bird is her nickname and the photo is from her 1st birthday.  This is meant to go on her wall.
That's the last of my current updates.  Hope you all have enjoyed them.

Last Home Game of the Season

Tuesday night was the last home game of the season.
(Districts are next week.)

Big C getting ready to go in the game.

Small T getting ready to play in the pep band.
(She's in the red behind the cheerleader with the balls.)

One of my many nephews (holding his placque up in the air).
He received an award for being the winner in his age group at the hoop shoot contest.

Big C (#55) stealing the ball away.
I still can't believe I actually captured this shot.

Big C (with his hands up in the air) blocking a shot.
These will be the last baskeball photos of the season.
Hope you enjoyed them.

Marching Band

A photo of our school's marching band at the Sterling Price Festival parade. Small T is in the front row, second from the left. Of course, you can't see her in this photo hardly at all, but I'm ok with that. The band placed 2nd.

Photo highlights from this week...

Baby E and Momma came to visit Aunt Shelly. Baby E was wearing some of the layette I crocheted for her . Isn't she darling?

Friday night was the FCCLA Carnival. One of the booths was a Marriage Booth. Small T got married several times. But this one is my favorite. She married her boyfriend "Slim C" and Big C was the Best Man. Slim C and Big C are friends and that can be annoying to Small T at times. You can see this in the photo. She's a bit upset at Big C for butting in. :)

Saturday morning was the Band Boosters Car Wash. I brought all of the vehicles over. Big C's truck is shown here...it's getting the full treatment. I felt a bit bad about bringing it over because it was filthy. Oh well. We had cars, trucks, and tractors visit the car wash. Yep, you heard that right...tractors. We're a farming community.

Spring Concert - Part 2

These two photos show Small T at the Spring Concert. The first one is where they are walking in to sit down. She's in front of the band instructor. The second photo is of her making a face at me because I was taking her photo. She plays the flute.

Pecan Festival Parade - Marching Band

I wanted to include a collage of the band photos on my blog since I've been sharing the different parades and contests that they have been marching in. This parade was yesterday, here in town, at the yearly event of the Pecan Festival. The band led the procession (behind the police chief in his car followed by the American Flag and the other flag carriers). The band faced the podium and played the Star Spangled Banner while the flag was saluted by the crowd. Then the band did their routine (last photo) before marching on down the road. The second photo shows my daughter....she is to the right of the band major.
