Books

The last two books that have been in my hands are:

Marked.  Book 1 in the House of Night series.

I have read this several times and I was thinking of starting the series again.  But I changed my mind after finishing Marked.  I'm just not ready to read them again (yet).

The Game of Thrones.  Book 1 in the series.

I'm reading this now.  Slowly.  I've read it before but it's been awhile.  I have not read the other books in the series yet.

Latest Read

I started (and finished) a book at the pool yesterday. (Obviously, we weren't busy with only five swimmers the whole day.) This is the 2nd book in the series. One of my sister's loaned this set to me. This series is centered around Eve Duncan, a forensic sculptor. There's always a mystery involved in these books and I enjoy them.

It's Amazing!

I couldn't believe my luck! Last Friday, on our way south for the Float Trip, we had to stop at Wal-Mart for a few last minute items. I walked by this display and couldn't believe my luck. There they were....books 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 of this series! I had bought books 1 - 6 last summer and then couldn't find the rest of them. But here they were, one year later. Woo Hoo! And then today, on our way home from a day of visiting and shopping, I stopped at a different Wal-Mart to pick up dinner (broasted chicken) and found books 12 and 13. Wow! The stars must be in my favor! LOL I'm so lucky though. I had consigned myself to not being able to find these books and low and behold...there they were.

Current Read

I started this book at the pool yesterday. So far, it's a great read. One of my sister's loaned me the entire set of books. This is book one of the Eve Duncan series. She's a forensic sculptor and works on the skulls of unidentified people.

Current Reads

I managed to read two books this past weekend at the Family Reunion. They were "Silver Borne" and "River Marked" by Patricia Briggs. Books 5 and 6 of the Mercy Thompson Series. I thoroughly enjoyed these books, just as I did the first 4. Well worth the read.

Latest Read

I read this book yesterday. It's called "Dead Reckoning" and it's book #11 in the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. This is one of my new purchases and I was dying to read it. You see....I LOVE this series!!! It's about vampires, telepaths, witches, weres, fairies, etc.. All those things that I love to read about!

My Wonderful Postman!!!

It's a RED LETTER DAY in the Whitney household!!! Woo Hoo!!! My wonderful postman brought my book order! OMG! The expected delivery date was May 2nd. Look at all the loveliness from inside the box.............I can't wait to dive in and do some serious reading!!!

I am currently reading Fablehaven - Keys to the Demon Prison. It's book 5 of the series. Brandon Mull is the author. This is a series that I collect and I throughly enjoy reading these books.

The book I am currently reading is "The Last Apprentice: Clash of the Demons". It's book 6 of the series.

The next book....

on my reading list is......"The Siege of Macindaw" by John Flanagan. It's book 6 in the Ranger's Apprentice series. I love this series! :)

Book Therapy

Kenny wanted to eat lunch at Subway today and guess what's next door? Barnes and Noble!!! Woo Hoo! I used some of my earning these past weeks and did a bit of book shopping. In the process, I added to four of the series' that we read. I bought book 6 of The Last Apprentice, Book 6 of Ranger's Apprentice, Book 5 of the Fablehaven series, and books 7, 8 and 9 of The Otherworld Series. If you remember correctly, I had posted that I was re-reading The Otherworld Series just this past week. Woo Hoo! Lots of good reading in my future!!!

Current Read

My husband bought me this series of books a couple of weeks ago and I've been saving it for an "emergency". Yesterday, sitting at the hospital in the emergency room, was that "emergency". I don't deal well with waiting or being worried. So, I started the first book (shown here) and let me tell you....it's really, really good so far. I got through the first four chapters with the snap of my fingers. So, if you like fantasy and vampires, give this series a try!

My Current Read

It's book 3 of the "Sisters of the Moon" series by Yasmine Galenorn. I own these and I love them, love them, love them. I'm re-reading them for the 3rd time now. :)

Book Review

I'm going to do another book review. It's on "The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud" by Ben Sherwood. I absolutely loved this book. I give it an 8 out of 10. Maybe a 9. It's a great story!!! It's easy to read and family friendly. I can't wait to see the movie now. Basically, it's the story of two brothers, and what happens when one of them dies. Absolutely beautiful!

Book Review

I decided to do another book review. This one is one "The Girl Who Played With Fire" by Stieg Larsson. This is the second book in the series. The first book is called "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" and I did a book review on this back in September. Anyway, this book has the same basic characters as the first one, with a few additions to make it interesting. There is a new plot, which it should have, and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. More than the first one, in fact. I give this book a 7 out of 10. This seems like a very vague book review, but if I tell you about it, then you won't want to read it. However, I will say that it's a type of mystery with some thrills and chills in it, and a lot of innuendo. These two books are not for children or pre-teens. You definitely need to be more mature to read them. Sometimes the content is a bit too much. But, overall....it's quite interesting and I would read it again.

Book Review

I just finished reading "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" by Stieg Larsson. At the time, I also bought the second book in the series "The Girl Who Played With Fire". My review of the first book is that it gets a 5 1/2 out of 10 stars. I think the book started out very slowly. I didn't find it interesting at all until I was well into the second chapter. Even then, I had my doubts about the book. However, the book did end up capturing my interest and I couldn't wait to see what happened in the end. Some of it I expected, the rest I didn't. So...if you decide to read this book, make sure to stick with it through the first chapter. It's setting some necessary background information for what's to come. Would I buy this book again? After some serious thought, yes.

The Book Nook

I haven't put any book reviews on here for quite some time. It's high time I did so now. I've read a lot of books over the past couple of months, but I will only add the books of note and not include the many romance novels I read during our holiday.

The Stephanie Plum Series by Janet Evanovich

There are a lot of books in this series....at least 15....but I have only read the first six:

One For The Money
Two For The Dough
Three To Get Deadly
Four To Score
High Five
Hot Six

I can't ruin the experience of reading these books for you. They are a bit different than the type of books I usually read, but I have to admit that I loved these books. I want you to give them a go. I never laugh during movies or books unless they are extremely funny to me. You see, I have a different kind of sense of humor. I just don't find some things funny enough to laugh over, even though others are. But, these books made me laugh. More than once. The author tells a great story and it's done like she is Stephanie Plum. I should add that Stephanie Plum is a bounty hunter, and not exactly a very good one either. Plus, her family is a bit wacky, but very normal, in a modern day way. I would be honored to be one of their family. Strange as they can be. Her Grandma is a hoot! On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give these books an 8. High praise from me, indeed.

Plum Lovin' by Janet Evanovich

This is another Stephanie Plum story, but not along the same story line as the previous series. It's a side story, you might say. I thought this was good as well. I would give it a 7 out of 10.

"The Classic Tale of Partholon" Series by P.C. Cast

There are three books in this series:

Divine By Mistake
Divine By Choice
Divine By Blood

This is a good series as well. Set not only in modern day Oklahoma, but also the mirror image city of Parthelon. You can find goddesses, gods, centaurs, etc. in these books. Lots of magic and other mysterious creatures abound too. P.C. Cast wrote my favorite series "The House of Night" and I wanted to try something else she had written as well. I'm glad I did. I had bought these books for my daughter Tianna, but being 13, she's not quite old enough to read these books due to some adult content. Basically....sex. It's not graphic, but there's still enough of a description that she's not ready to read about yet. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give books 1 and 3 a "7" and book 2 (my favorite) an "8".

I hope that others are inspired to read these stories from my brief descriptions. I really don't want to say more about the books because I'm afraid I'll ruin it for you. Too much info can be harmful, you know?

The Book Nook - Post 3

I have read the following books:

Dead and Gone (Book 9 in the series) by Charlaine Harris - I love this series!!! They are the Sookie Stackhouse Novels. I couldn't believe my luck when I found it out in paperback. I bought it and read it. Just like that. I see that book 10 is out as well, but it's still in hardback so I'll just have to wait. I give this book a 9 out of 10. And these books are about vampires, shape-shifters, etc..

The Vampire Diaries (The Awakening and The Struggle) by L.J. Smith - This book is a two in one... two novels in one book. Obviously, the topic has to do with vampires. I enjoyed these two stories and am getting ready to read the next two in the series. I give this book a 7 out of 10.
