FCCLA Awards Night

Before I begin typing, let me apologize for the state of these photos.  My sister took the photos with my camera and apparently, she has no clue what she is doing.  Every photo is blurred.  I haven't got a single clear photo out of about fifty photos.  Oh well.  Maybe the school has some that they are going to share.  Anyway, enough of my belly-aching.

On April 4th, FCCLA held their Awards Night for the year.  Small T and Tyreese are FCCLA members as well as my two nephews, Awan and Garland.  A lot of awards were given out and I'm very proud that all four each received a handful of them.  Small T and Awan were officers this past year and next year, Small T is the President.  This is an organization that my daughter has loved since the 7th grade and she's hoping to continue her participation even as an adult volunteer after she graduates high school.

Weekend Misc.

Last weekend, we were fairly busy.  This is how we spent our Saturday morning and afternoon.

 We volunteered our help in building the FCCLA Recycling Barn at school.

Big Daddy is sharing his knowledge with one of the kids in regards to the building trades.

 Then, Small T made a stop at the school greenhouse to check on her poinsetta's.

She is growing them for her FFA SAE.

They are fairly tricky plants to grow.  She has 100 of them.  They should be fully grown by Thanksgiving, which is when she will have them up for sale.

 I spent some time marveling at the changing colors.  We are finally getting some Fall colors on the trees that didn't lose all their leaves in the drought this summer.  I love the burgundy color on this tree.

 Then there are the bright yellow leaves of this smaller tree.  It looks like the top ones have already blown away.  It's been very windy the past week or so.

 And I love the rustic look of the woods across from the school with all the shades of brown, yellow and green.  There might even be a bit of red in there somewhere.

 Then there's this.  I was bored.  I started taking photos of everyone's shadow while waiting to help on the recycling barn at school.  This is me and my rendition of The Statue of Liberty.  LOL

And finally, we have Small T.  She's helping Bobby put together some of the inside supports for the recycling barn. It was a bit out of her element but she was game to try.

FCCLA Hot Dog Stand

On Saturday, August 18th, the FCCLA Alumni & Associates held another fundraiser.  This time it was a Hot Dog Stand.  Big Daddy was quite gracious about being volunteered by his wife and daughter to grill hot dogs for 3 hours.  Here he is...hard at work.  :)  Thanks a bunch Big Daddy!

FCCLA Car Wash

Last Saturday was the FCCLA Associates and Alumni Car Wash.  The money made will be used for the National Leadership Convention in Oklahoma City, OK, this coming October.

Honorary Membership

Last night was the first banquet of the year at school.

It was the FCCLA Banquet.

FCCLA stands for Family, Community and Career Leadership Association.

It's a service oriented organization.

As a parent, I belong to the FCCLA Alumni & Associates organization that helps support the kids in their endeavors.

I was absolutely shocked to hear that I was one of the recipients of the FCCLA Honorary Membership awards given out last night. Here is Small T presenting me with the award. This makes me smile! Can you see it? :)

Small T Is Home!

Last Thursday, Small T and Miss B along with their advisor Mrs. W, left on a trip to Minneapolis, Minnesota. They attended the FCCLA National Leadership Meeting/Convention.

Both girls were about to embark on their first airplane ride.

They arrived home Sunday night. They learned a lot and are already writing their speeches for the assembly that's coming up soon.

Photo highlights from this week...

Baby E and Momma came to visit Aunt Shelly. Baby E was wearing some of the layette I crocheted for her . Isn't she darling?

Friday night was the FCCLA Carnival. One of the booths was a Marriage Booth. Small T got married several times. But this one is my favorite. She married her boyfriend "Slim C" and Big C was the Best Man. Slim C and Big C are friends and that can be annoying to Small T at times. You can see this in the photo. She's a bit upset at Big C for butting in. :)

Saturday morning was the Band Boosters Car Wash. I brought all of the vehicles over. Big C's truck is shown here...it's getting the full treatment. I felt a bit bad about bringing it over because it was filthy. Oh well. We had cars, trucks, and tractors visit the car wash. Yep, you heard that right...tractors. We're a farming community.

FCCLA Star Events Project

My daughter and my nephew are shown here with their FCCLA Star Events Project. They won gold at the regional competition and silver at the state competition. Not bad for a couple of 8th graders! We're extremely proud of them!

Silver Medal at State

My lovely daughter earned a silver medal at the state level competition for FCCLA this past weekend. My nephew was her partner. Way to go kids! Doesn't she look happy?
