Afghan/Blanket/Throw Is Finished!

I have finished the afghan/blanket that I was making. I ran out of yellow yarn, so it ended up being a throw instead of an afghan. (I was going to do a fifth vertical row but ended up with four.) I used this pattern/idea for it. http://dottieangel.blogspot.com/2010/06/ordinarily-extraordinary-blanket-how-to.html I was new to her way of crocheting the blanket together, but I have become an instant fan. I worked on this blanket a total of four days (varying hours each day). It was very quick to crochet and very easy to put together. I would have no problems using this pattern to make another blanket in the future. I used yarn from my yarn stash and a J hook. Since I used yarn I already had left over from other projects, this ended up costing me $0 to make. Those are the best kind of projects, in my opinion. I should also add that this afghan/blanket/throw will be added to our collection here at home. I did not make it with anyone in mind, so it's not a gift. I think I've succeeded in adding a bit of color to our home with it. What do you think?

  1. Hi Shelly
This is a lovely looking throw. I went to the link you gave but I must say she hasn't really given much of a pattern. I much prefer the ones you write out. She didn't say how many rows to do or what size hook she used. I think I will get confused just trying to get the different colors in the right place. I like the picot edge but I can't tell in you picture if you did that on yours. So please can you write out your pattern so I can follow it.

    Thanks Jennifer

Have a wonderful Christmas. I hope Kenny is well.

  2. Hi Jennifer!
I did do the picot edge on mine. It's in the orange yarn.
I will try to write up the pattern for you (the way I did it) and send it to you in an email. Give me a couple of days though. I have to go back out to the farm to work tomorrow.
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas too!
Thanks for asking about Kenny. He's been in bed the past two days. He's back to not feeling well again. I'm hoping it's a "phase" but it probably isn't. It's that time of the year when he's sick the most.
    Take care.....

  3. Oh thanks Shelly and no rush> I have that many projects on the go that I won't be able to start right away anyhow. Hope Kenny gets to feeling better soon. I am sure the cold weather is hard for anyone who isn't in the best of health. How are you doing? You are always so busy I bet you never have much time to think about yourself. ANd totally off topic--Are you still doing that daily Bible reading with the group that started.

  4. You're welcome Jennifer! I will get to it as soon as I can, promise. Like you, I also have several projects going right now as well. Plus, I have an order for two baby blankets for after the new year. So I will have to start working on them soon.
I'm doing ok. I think I've come down with a cold though. I hope it leaves real quick! LOL
Nope, I don't have much time for myself, but I think that's life when you are the mom of three kids that are very active. One day, they will all be grown up and out of the house and then I'll have lots of "me" time.
Yes, I'm still doing the daily Bible reading. We are in Jeremiah right now. Hard to believe that on Jan. 1st, we will have been reading the Bible for 2 years.

  5. You are to be congratulated for sticking with this. I am reading the Bible with a Chronological Read the Bible in a Year Version. I have been interested to get to understand the Bible in a chronological way. It is interesting to see which books come first etc.

I am going to try this afghan. I wonder about the very first instructions. What does she mean with a chain of 3 0 + 3. I guess if she meant 33 stitches she would have just sedaid that.

  6. Jennifer,
She does mean chain 33 at the beginning. Then dc in the 4th ch from hook and then in each stitch across. I did a total of 15 rows of the dc, then switched off to another color. I also did 6 colors in each vertical row. At the end of the 6th color, I fastened it off. Then started back at the beginning "square" and added on the next 33 chains to at the right of the square, in the last chain of the beginning chain. Hope that makes sense.
Yes, I am rather happy with myself for having stayed with the daily Bible reading for almost two years now. I don't think I've ever accomplished something to this extent.
