Starter

Thursday, I made some Starter.  I haven't had any in quite awhile and my family really likes the breads and pancakes that I make with it.  I'm using the Amish Friendship Bread Starter.  If you do an internet search, you can find a lot of different recipes for both the starter and what you can make with it.  I'm using this one.  http://www.armchair.com/recipe/bake002.html  This site has the starter recipe AND several pages of variations on the sweet bread as well as a lot of other recipes for pancakes, biscuits, etc..
Today, is Day 3 of the starter for me.  When I get to Day 10, I will need to separate it out into portions but I won't need to give any of my starter away because we use so much of it.  As always, I'll keep a portion so I can keep the Starter going.  Then, I will use one portion that day and put two away in the refrigerator for baking during the next 10 day period.
Does anyone else keep Starter in the house?  If so, what recipe do you use?  My husband is always wanting Sour Dough Starter.  I'm wondering if it's different than this one for Amish Friendship Bread.  I will have to Google this.

  1. Yum, I love Friendship Bread. I made the starter once but wasn't happy with the results. I'll have to try this one.
