Small T and the Softball Accident

I got a phone call Tuesday afternoon while Small T was at softball practice. I needed to get to the field asap as Small T was hit in the face with the softball. Oh boy! I could just see this coming. My kids never do anything by half-measure. So...when we get there, I could see everyone standing in the softball field around her while she was lying on the ground. Big Daddy pulled the car up close to the field and I got out to see what was going on. I was handed her broken glasses and they helped load her up. She had gauze on the bleeding and an ice bag over all of it. Coach asked that I call him when we find out what the doctors had to say after the trip to the Emergency Room. Prepare yourself...here's what we saw....
It's not nearly as bad as what we thought we might see. She did have a nose bleed on the way to the hospital. I was leaning over the front seat into the back seat trying to help her out. The one time I needed something to stop the bleeding and I was out of everything I normally have on hand. No kleenex, no toliet paper (emergency stuff for nose blowing), no paper towels, nothing.

This is Small T's lovely appearance yesterday.

And this is Small T (working up a smile) today.
There have been doctor appt's each and every day since Tuesday afternoon. It's a wonder she's smiling at all. She ended up having an orbital blowout fracture (the bone under her eye...I would call it her cheekbone, but it's not) and a maxillary nasal fracture. At least one of these will require surgery when the swelling subsides in about 10 days to 2 weeks. She also has an abrasion to her cornea. Her glasses are toast, but we have to wait to have a new pair made until after her next visit with the eye doctor. Due to the trauma, she may need a different prescription. On a high note, her boyfriend still thinks she's cute! Sweet, huh? :)
